What is deleted from the hard drive is far from gone. As long as the data is not overwritten, anyone can make it visible again at any time. This is particularly problematic when a computer is resold or given away.
Secure Eraser utilizes recognized methods for data deletion and overwrites confidential information so securely that it cannot be restored even with specialized software. But that's not all: Our award-winning solution for secure data destruction also removes cross-references that could allow conclusions about the former existence of the deleted files in the allocation tables of your hard drives.
The very easy-to-use Windows software overwrites sensitive data up to 35 times - whether it's files, folders, drives, the recycle bin, or browsing traces. Even already deleted files can be securely erased afterwards.
In addition to overwriting with random values, Secure Eraser adheres to the guidelines of the NIST SP 800-88 standard, offering the proven standards US DoD 5220.22-M E and US DoD 5220.22-M ECE from the US Department of Defense, the German Industrial Standard, and the Peter Gutmann Standard for selection. All deletion processes are meticulously logged upon request.
When legal data retention periods have expired or you want to securely wipe your hard drive before a system upgrade or device disposal, thorough data deletion is essential. You have two options: hire a professional data erasure service or use specialized software like Secure Eraser. Taking care of data erasure yourself not only gives you full control but also saves money – external service providers are often costly, while investing in licensed software is a one-time expense with long-term flexibility.
Securely wiping a hard drive – regardless of its size or manufacturer – requires maximum reliability. With Secure Eraser, you're relying on trusted and certified erasure standards that ensure deleted files cannot be recovered. Even metadata and cross-references that could hint at previously stored information are completely removed. This guarantees thorough, irreversible data deletion – ideal for businesses and private users with high security requirements.
Our Secure Eraser software is the perfect tool to securely delete data – whether it's individual files, entire folders, or full drives. It is compatible with all current Windows versions and features a user-friendly interface in multiple languages. Regular updates ensure Secure Eraser always meets the latest security standards. Question: Can I securely erase data on my SSD using Secure Eraser?
Answer: Unlike conventional hard drives, SSD storage devices save files and folders in a way that makes targeted overwriting of used storage areas impossible. We recommend contacting the manufacturer of your SSD to inquire about the manufacturer-specific deletion software designed for your model.
Alternatively, you can securely delete files and folders from SSD storage devices using Secure Eraser by following these instructions:
1. Enable optimized deletion procedure
Navigate to the main menu and go to Settings > SSD (Solid State Drives). Ensure that the options Optimized deletion procedure and Show deletion recommendations are enabled.
2. Select files and folders to delete
Select the files and folders you want to delete using the File & folder deletion menu. Secure Eraser automatically detects if the storage device is an SSD during the deletion process and internally disables multiple overwriting, regardless of the selected deletion method. This prevents unnecessary write cycles that could shorten the lifespan of the SSD.
Instead, the data is deleted using methods specifically optimized for SSDs. Afterward, a TRIM command is executed, informing the SSD controller that the affected storage blocks are no longer needed. This allows the SSD’s internal garbage collection to efficiently clean these blocks and free them up for new write operations, ensuring complete data removal.
3. Securely delete free space
If the Show deletion recommendations option is enabled, you will receive an automatic prompt to securely delete the entire free space on the SSD. To do this, use the Free space deletion menu and select the appropriate storage device. Secure Eraser will again detect if it is an SSD and automatically disable multiple overwriting to preserve the SSD’s lifespan.
If you choose not to display deletion recommendations, it is advisable to perform this step manually - especially after deleting sensitive data or before transferring ownership of the storage device. This ensures that no recoverable data remnants remain on the drive.
Question: Can the system partition be safely erased with Secure Eraser?
Answer: Yes. The system partition is hidden in the "Drive/partition deletion" menu because it cannot be deleted during operation. However, if you proceed as follows, you can still clean up your system safely:
Reset your system to the factory state: Go to "Start" > "Settings" > "Updates & Security" and click "Recovery". In the right column under the heading "Reset this PC", click "Get started" and in the next step select "Remove everything".
Once the PC is reset, delete the free space via the "Free space deletion" menu in Secure Eraser. In this way, your system is reset to the factory state and all data is safely overwritten.
