Regular backups are essential to protect against data loss due to hardware defects, software errors, ransomware attacks, or accidental deletion. Without reliable data backup, important documents, company data and personal files can be irretrievably lost. Powerful backup software ensures that all data is automatically and securely stored on external hard drives, NAS systems, or cloud backup. In the event of an emergency, fast data recovery allows lost files to be available again with just a few clicks. Consumers and businesses alike benefit from automated backups and encrypted backup solutions to protect sensitive information from cyberattacks and system failures. Invest in a reliable backup solution to secure your data for the long term.
Whether you need a backup for Windows or another operating system, there are several ways to effectively protect your data. The simplest and safest solution is a powerful backup software that automatically creates a backup at set time intervals. This way, important files are backed up regularly without manual effort. Alternatively, you can perform a manual backup, in which you specifically select which files and folders should be backed up. In particular, automated data backup on external hard drives, NAS systems or in cloud backup ensures the highest level of protection against data loss. A reliable backup software ensures that you can access your backed up data at any time.
With an automatic data backup for Windows, you save time and relieve yourself and your team, as there is no longer any need for manual backup. Question: How to run BackUp Maker as a Service?
Answer: On all Windows systems since Windows Vista (or on server versions since Windows Server 2008), BackUp Maker can be started as a service via Windows Task Scheduler without requiring a user to be logged on to the system. The program therefore operates as a Windows-controlled service that can perform backups independently of a user login.
All that is needed to do this is to change the post-installation task "BackUp_Maker-USERNAME" in Windows Task Scheduler (which can be found via Windows Search for the keyword "Task Scheduler") as follows:
Instead of "Run only when user is logged on" you must enable the "Run whether user is logged on or not" option.
In addition, the trigger "At startup" must be selected under "Trigger" instead of "At log on".
After these changes, the system should be restarted, alternatively, BackUp Maker can be stopped and the task that has just been changed can be started.
Note that the BackUp Maker tray icon is not displayed in this type of execution; the program runs virtually as a service invisible in the background. It is therefore important to use the option of sending reports by e-mail to inform you whether the backup jobs created have been performed correctly.
Important: To process jobs, you must finish the ongoing task through task scheduling and restart BackUp Maker from the desktop of the user under which the software was set up. After all the changes have been made, BackUp Maker should be completely terminated and the task should be restarted via task scheduling.
Question: What should I do if I have problems writing to CD/DVD?
Answer: BackUp Maker writes on CD/DVD media according to the ASPI guidelines using the SPTI standard (SCSI PASS-THROUGH INTERFACE). If you use older burner hardware that does not work according to the ASPI guidelines, error-free writing on CD/DVD media cannot be guaranteed.
Problems with newer/current burner hardware can usually be solved with the following settings:
Question: After writing the CD/DVD is blank, why?
Answer: It is recommended to eject the CD/DVD medium after the writing process - Windows often only recognizes changes and contents of CD/DVD media after the CD/DVD writer has been reinserted.
Question: Some sessions are missing from multisession CDs/DVDs - what to do now?
Answer: Various operating systems cannot display multisessions on CD/DVD, while Nero, WinOnCD and other burning programs easily recognize all sessions (but due to a different standard, the files contained in the sessions cannot be opened).
IsoBuster (freeware) can normally read in and open these sessions and the files they contain - download IsoBuster.
Question: Can BackUp Maker back-up to Cloud Storage such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or Dropbox?
Answer: Yes, BackUp Maker can be used to back up data to all common cloud storage. Depending on the cloud service, programs are available directly from the provider that integrate cloud storage as a virtual folder into Windows Explorer (e.g. Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or Dropbox).
If the cloud service you use does not offer such integration for Windows, the data transfer can also be carried out via WebDAV, SMB or SFTP, provided that supported by the operator (e.g. MagentaCloud, Strato HiDrive). BackUp Maker allows you to select WebDAV/SMB drives from the "Local & LAN" tab on step "Target directory".
